Qualifications for Art Sharpsteen Scholarship Award 

The Art Sharpsteen Scholarship award was established at the Community Foundation in 1999 by family and friends to honor Coach Sharpsteen on the occasion of his 90th birthday, for his thirty years of coaching at Binghamton, Chenango Valley, and Waverly, NY High Schools. The first awards were made in 2000. Contributions to the Sharpsteen Fund are ongoing. Recommendation of an award recipient should be forwarded to the Community Foundation by the Chairperson of the selection committee at each school.

To be eligible, a student:

* Must have participated in the Varsity Basketball program and have demonstrated basketball ability for at least two years;

* Must have demonstrated strength of character;

* Must have demonstrated good sportsmanship with good citizenship and/or sportsmanship award(s);

* Must have shown leadership in school clubs, offices, and/or community service;

* Must have a scholastic grade point average of 80 out of 100 minimum;

* Must be accepted to an accredited college or university;

* May be a male or female athlete

* Should show financial need
