The Community Foundation for South Central New York (formerly the Greater Broome Community Foundation) was founded in 1997 by a concerned and caring group of local citizens who envisioned the establishment of a permanent fund, or endowment, that would benefit communities in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware and Tioga counties for generations to come.

As part of their mission, they wanted to ensure that anyone who lived in or loved our region could always make a donation – large or small – to the endowment. They also wanted to provide a means for donors to realize their own charitable goals through their gifts. So the founders looked to an endowment model that has served hundreds of communities throughout the United States: the community foundation.
