Chenango Valley (CV) 1964-1965 (18-0, 18-1) The best CV team to date. They swept the TCL league that they tied for the title last year easily throughout the regular season going undefeated the 1st team to do so for Art since the early forties at Central. Two new team scoring records were set this season. First against Central 89-74 then the last game of the year against SV 92-44(CV had a 60-19 first half lead!). JC got within 4, 65-61, UE the next closest 63-56, then North losing 58-47. All other teams were beaten by at least 10 and the Warriors outscored their opponents by 1233 to 945 or averages of about 70 per game versus less than 53 per game. Bruce Duncan(15.3 avg.), was the go to man when teams concentrated on Berg (18.2 avg.) and Reid(18.3 avg.). Tom Weigle avg 14.5 per game and Mark Withers about 6 per game. CV even beat Vestal 66-56 without Berg near the end of the year. JohnReid was named player of the year and both he and Berg made the All TCL team. Unfortunately they played Vestal for the 3rd time and got bumped 70-60 getting outscored by 11 in the 2nd quarter. CV only hit 10 of 29 free throws(25%) and were outscored by 10 points at the line. It was still a great season. It’s hard beating teams three times in one season!
