Chenango Valley (CV) 1960-1961 (12-6, 13-7) This is the first year CV fielded a team without Bob Maguire. Bob was the only 4 year varsity player for Art’s coaching career(Bill “Greeny” Korba played 4 years, but it was JV and varsity 1940-1943). This year all starters are seniors, also a 1st for Art. Dick Reece got the Warriors off to a great start with 23 against Greene(84-39) with 10 players scoring. Dick Lampman and Reece totaled 46 beating Owego 65-47. A battle of unbeatens saw CV top UE 50-42(Reece 15, Lampman 14 and Tom McKee 10). Unbeaten Vestal then edged CV 57-52. Unbeaten Cooperstown fell 69-54(Reece 31, McKee 16). At Owego CV fell in double OT 44-41 for only its 2nd loss. North followed winning 56-51 making up a 17pt CV lead. The 3rd loss in a row was to Vestal 70-50, 18 pt deficit loses it in the 4th quarter. CV closed the season revenging a loss to North. The Sect 4 playoff CV edged North in OT 30-29 with Gary Hitchcock hitting 1 of 2 free throws after the buzzer. Art beat Howland at his own freeze game with no field goals in the last 12 minutes. CV then lost for the 3rd time to Vestal 49-42 ending the season. Vestal again won in the 4th quarter outscoring CV 19-11 erasing a 31-30 CV lead after the 3rd. Dick Reece made the all TC five averaging 21 pts a game.
