| SHARPSTEEN SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
We’re happy to share with you news about the Art Sharpsteen Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation for South Central New York.
Art's family, friends and former students established the fund to honor him on his 90th birthday June 21, 1999. In the first 11 years of this fund $ 17,050.00 has been awarded to 48 graduating high school deserving basketball athletes in the Southern Tier of NY; 23 women 25 men; 12 from Binghamton High School, 23 from Chenango Valley High School and 13 from Waverly High School. The scholarships awards help deserving student athletes with some college expenses.
Sadly, Art passed just after his 94th birthday on June 29, 2003. Until this year he attended the award ceremonies and personally met all of these wonderful young men and women.
¨ Every gift helps us toward our goal of $35,000 to endow the fund to benefit outstanding future students. ¨ The awards made possible by the original donors have helped with costs of tuition and/or books for the following nine young women and nine young men.
